Sponsors give big to
Jazz in the Pines

This year’s Idyllwild Jazz in the Pines sponsors have pledged generously to continue funding the Associates of Idyllwild Arts Foundation, which provides scholarships to talented students from around the world who attend Idyllwild Arts.

The Associates also recruit more than 300 volunteers who prepare and will work the 15th-annual Jazz in the Pines.

“As we go through the process of planning Jazz in the Pines, we often pause to realize that each dollar raised will be used for scholarships to nearly half of the students who attend Idyllwild Arts. It is crucial to support the ongoing funding of art and music schools, which ensure that young gifted children have every opportunity to pursue their passion in life,” said Jeff Hocker, Jazz in the Pines executive producer.

Smooth jazz guitarist Lee Ritenour headlines the festival line-up on Saturday, Aug. 23, along with number one recording artist Dave Koz, who performs Sunday, Aug. 24.

Jazz aficionados will be treated to the cool sounds of Change Required, the fluid melodies of the Lori Andrews Jazz Harp Quartet and the magnificent percussions of the Najite Agindotan African Ensemble. Idyllwild Arts alumni Evan Christopher, the Graham Dechter Trio and the Daniel Sazer-Krebbers Quartet, along with Jazz in the Pines musical director and legendary bassist Marshall Hawkins and more than 30 acts, will light up three venues over the weekend.

Jazz in the Pines would not be possible without the support of the following major and contributing sponsors: Wells Fargo, Riverside County 3rd District, R&R Broadcasting, Yamaha, Jazzercise, Guaranty Bank, Anne & Barnaby Finch, Crown Printers, Bodenstein Family Foundation, Heimark Distributing, Wes and Stella Johnson, Patricia Hansen, Palm Springs Subaru, Gastrognome Restaurant, Idyllwild Inn, Mountain Harvest Market, Café Aroma, Solé Natural Mineral Water, Akeena Solar, Young’s Market, Oranco Development and Southern California Edison.

Gates open at 10 a.m. both days and music begins at 11 a.m. with all venues playing live music continuously until 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The festival is held on the Idyllwild Arts campus and is a fund-raiser for the Associates of Idyllwild Arts Foundation.

All parking is free with shuttles running continuously between the center of town and clearly designated lots. Beer, wine by the glass or bottle, margaritas and food concessions, including Bristol Farms box lunches, are all available for sale on the Jazz in the Pines grounds.

More than 60 art booths will feature handmade artifacts, jazz memorabilia, Jazz in the Pines collector items, and an endless array of specialty items from artisans throughout Southern California.

General admission tickets are $60 per day at www.idyllwildjazz.com, by calling (951) 313-3361 or at Idyllwild Pharmacy. Jazz in the Pines will only honor tickets sold by these authorized dealers.
